On Steve Ladd (R.I.P.)

(Photo: WDIA)

Steve Ladd, co-host of the Fun Afternoon Show on WDIA 1070 AM, has passed away.

He was 63.

He died Sunday, according to his MySpace page, which also notes that Ladd underwent an emergency surgery last week. Fox13, citing sources, reported that Ladd died of a brain aneurysm.

On WDIA, there is a memorial that began Sunday afternoon and has grown to 46 pages and counting.

Ladd will surely be missed. Not only was he a Dallas Cowboys fan, the native Texan and radio veteran was a sage voice of reason in the afternoons on WDIA. (According to Tha MATT, a tribute concert is planned for Thursday.)

Godspeed, Steve.

ON AN UNRELATED, BUT RELATED, NOTE: Godspeed to Bill Sorrels too.

I'm shocked and saddened!
Steve was a heck of a nice guy. We went back to the days when we both lived down in Mississippi and I sure was thrilled with his hire at 'DIA. His work there was terrific, as was was his energy promoting the local blues scene.I'm numb. The city really lost an important person today-- one we barely got to know.
RIP, my friend.

Steve will be missed. I had the pleasure of sharing the last 3 years with him and we had such a great time together. Steve was a definite Christian who loved people and wanted to share his knowledge with all that came in contact with him. So to MY HANDSOME GENTLEMAN, Rest in Peace, I will love you always...
