On $5 Dollar Cover

The shooting for "$5 Cover" begins next week.

According to the CA, MTV plans to promote the Craig Brewer-produced webisodes about Memphis musicians on many of the 150 international television stations that it owns.

An excerpt:

Brewer, 36, said the series would promote contemporary Memphis music to a world that mostly knows only the city's rich musical past.

"MTV is giving us a small chunk of change and complete control to highlight the artists of our community in a fun, sexy new way, and on our own terms," he said.

Brewer plans to use Memphis and Shelby County residents exclusively for his 38 crew members as well as for his lead performers, who will portray "people who are in each other's bands and in each other's beds."
Now, this could get embarrassing--nowhere near the "Adventures in Hollyhood" level--but that shouldn't deter anyone from getting the word out about local eccentricities. Who knows it could spawn a tourism industry?

In fact, why not devise a tour of places where any kind of notable filming has occurred? What is being done to preserve those venues or moments?
